Thursday, August 4, 2011

I had the opportunity last week to sit down with Matt Hunckler, the Director of Marketing at Slingshot SEO, and talk with him about Search Engine Optimization and how organizations are incorporating it into their marketing mix. Here’s a bit of our conversation:

Matt Hunckler

Director of Marketing
Slingshot SEO
@hunckler

Colby: What is SEO? It seems a little abstract – like alchemy – can you get us up to speed on this topic?

Matt: No problem. It's a fairly complex practice, but I'll see if I can break it down a bit.

From the perspective of the search engines, search is about providing the best...

ExactTarget Improves the Human Habitat

Posted by: Brian McGreer
Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Howdy,

I'm Brian McGreer.  I'm a software developer here at ExactTarget and, when I'm not working to further protect our customers from internet evil-doers, I get to serve as a member of the ExactImpact committee--the philanthropic wing of ExactTarget.  I thought I'd take quick break from writing code to tell you about some fun I had at our recent Habitat for Humanity event.

If you don't know already, Habitat for Humanity is a charity that is dedicated to providing decent, safe, and economical housing to those who need it.  They do this by (surprise) building houses.  It's not a giveaway...Read More »

ExactTarget Turns Ten!

Posted by: Scott Dorsey
Wednesday, December 15, 2010
ExactTarget X YearsWhat a historic day for ExactTarget!  Ten years ago today, we filed ExactTarget LLC with the state of Indiana.  Chris Baggott, Peter McCormick and I had a vision to help marketers leverage data to connect with their customers via email.  We were convinced that this emerging channel would help businesses of all sizes deepen customer relationships through targeted and relevant communications.  Starting a web-based software company in late 2000 seemed crazy to many - the internet bubble had burst, the economy was struggling and the three of us were first time software entrepreneurs.  Long odds...Read More »

Twitter By the Numbers

Posted by: Brian Richardson
Thursday, October 7, 2010

Twitter, Why?Only about 5% of people on the Internet are active on Twitter, so why bother? Of all the reasons to not be active on Twitter, I think this one deserves some consideration. In spite of all the press and numerous tools formed around the service, this does seem like a fairly low adoption rate. Is there anybody listening? Why not be on Facebook where there are 500 million users instead?

Let’s look at some numbers that may make you change your mind.

1. 300,000 - This number represents the average number of Twitter users that are joining per day.5% may not sound like much, but if 300,000 new users...

Thursday, September 9, 2010
Most likely, you’re a marketer – not a programmer. Yet, some interactive marketing providers’ tools treat you like you are, making you waste time and energy trying to sort out the technical details. And if you’re struggling to secure time, resources, and internal IT support in an effort to extend your messages across the web, there’s an easier way to get things done.

Ok – ready to cut microsite creation time down to less than five minutes? Done. With ExactTarget’s incredibly user-friendly landing page marketing technology, you can easily create coupons, special promotions, or other types of...Read More »

Enter Twackle. Twackle is a service that aggregates tweets, across all of Twitter, that contain content about your...Read More »

Email Marketing for the Little Guy

At ExactTarget, we service thousands of clients, and in my 4+ years here (which kind of makes me a grizzled vet), I've had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients - from a small pizza parlor to a large multi-national corporation.

Every client's needs are different; some need help with a simple email newsletter, while some clients want to set up very targeted email marketing campaigns that leverage data from a variety of outside sources, like CRM or web analytics. The neat thing about internet marketing in general, and email marketing in particular, is that the size of the client...Read More »

Helping Agencies Get their Digital Game On – Part 1

Monday, November 3, 2008

Jason Baer understands the game-changing value of adding digital marketing expertise to an agency’s service offering. Before he founded Convince&Convert, a social media and email consulting firm that helps agencies beef up their digital marketing capabilities, Baer headed the interactive division of Off Madison Avenue in Tempe, Arizona. Recently, I sat down with Jason to get his take on why agencies must get serious about developing digital marketing capabilities.

Joel: Why is it critical for agencies to develop digital marketing capabilities?

Jason: 500% more people in the U.S. have a MySpace...

The information below provides an overview of the new rule provisions. ExactTarget recommends consulting your own counsel to learn how these changes specifically impact your email program.

iPhone: Impact on Mobile Email, 6 Months Later

Posted by: Morgan Stewart
Wednesday, January 9, 2008

The hoopla has started to calm down, but the impact of the iPhone is becoming crystal clear now. The battle between Apple and RIM is shaping up. B2B marketers hoping that business users are only using Blackberries need to take note. Optimizing your email for mobile rendering on the Blackberry is not going to be the long term answer.

Furthermore, other smartphone manufacturers continue to release phones that seem to be a direct response to the iPhone. Samsung's F700 and the LG Voyager are just a couple of the more notable recent releases.

It seems that iPhone’s full support of HTML on the web...
