My greatest frustration with my bank right now is that I can't set-up custom alerts. I want to know when my balance is low, when a large check clears, when I'm about to go into overdraft-fee-land. All I have right now is a daily balance email. Sure: that works; but not the way I want it to.
You're probably going to recommend that I switch banks. But it's not that easy, is it? With auto-billpay and direct deposits, I feel locked into my current bank. . .else deal with a bunch of new forms and paperwork that surround the financial industry. For now, I'll have to stick with my current financial insitution, but I'm banking on the future which (in my dream world) includes:
1. Full-scale mobile app: for quickly and easily checking the latest deposits, withdrawls, trends and tips. I'm hoping for account transfers, too.
2. GPS-powered ATM location service. . .but nothing too creepy.
3. Realtime SMS alerts: In the future, I hope I can custom set SMS messages to notify me of potential overdrafts, suspicious activity on my account, or when my checking account gets to the $50 dollar mark.
4. Spending Trend Analysis: ideally, this comes via weekly email or monthly email. Mint.com does this for me now, but I'd like my current bank to provide a similar service in the current platform.
Since I work at ExactTarget, I know that all of the email and mobile marketing technology out there exists to put my vision into practice; I hope some of these innovations come to my bank before I bite the bullet and decide to fill out the forms necessary to change banks!
I'm curious--what else is on your banking wish list? What do you wish YOUR financial institution provided that it doesn't today?
