Meet Erin DiMeglio, she's 17 and a quarterback. She's also the first girl to ever be on her high school's football team. This girl is breaking some serious barriers.
We think she is pretty amazing, and has what it takes to change the world around her. While you don't have to be a serious athlete to change the way your marketing team is organized, you do have to look at the world a little differently if you want to have a truly effective marketing team.
Here are five steps to help you get started:
1. Make sure your boss really gets it
Before you and your marketing colleagues begin to collaborate, make sure leadership understands how important it is to integrate social media into the organization and that social should be used to build relationships, learn and convert those relationships into profit.
2. Start from the bottom up
Don't try to completely reorganize your marketing department. Instead, build a cross-functional team that meets weekly and collaborates on goals, objectivers and overall strategy. Together, you can make a huge imact that can strengthen your organization's resolve to put additional resources against the work you are already doing.
3. Buld longer-term goals and objectives
While its important to jump in and experiment with campaigns, its also important for everyone to understand that social is a long-term play. Its about building relationships that endure. Make sure you goals and objectivers are measurable and attainable.
4. Inventory your content
No matter how big your company is, its likely you have existing content that can be shared to engage and connect with your consumers. Keep in mind that partners and customers are also great resources for contenet.
5. Measure, analyze and report on results
Show them what's working and what you've learned as a team! You set your goals and objectives, you've measured the impact and now you have results to share. Data always speaks for itself, and if the social media objectives are aligned with the overall business objectives, the tides will turn in your favor!
