For those who follow me on Twitter (@jkrohrs), you may have noticed that I’ve fallen rather silent the past month or so. That’s because I’ve been in the pre-Connections 2011 vortex, working with our amazing team to finalize our main stage speaker line-up, nail down our Day 2 breakouts (60 sessions!), and put the finishing touches on some of the videos that you’ll see if you’re in attendance September 13th-15th.
If you haven’t registered for Connections yet, here are a few of the personal highlights that I’m looking forward to this year:
1. KEYNOTES FROM SCOTT DORSEY & SCOTT MCCORKLE – EXACTTARGET’S CEO & COO
Yes, I’m kissing some serious rear here, but let me assure you, Scott & Scott always deliver the goods. And once you see what’s coming with ExactTarget’s Interactive Marketing Hub, you’ll be glad you got a seat front & center for their keynotes. It won’t just change the way you use ExactTarget—it will change the way you think about marketing.
2. Q&A WITH BEST BUY’S CMO & CTO
We’ve all run into it—the wall between Marketing and IT. But when do you get a chance to hear how one of the biggest retail brands—and one who’s business is consumer technology—share how they bridge those two worlds successfully. Barry Judge, Best Buy’s CMO, and Robert Stephens, Best Buy’s CTO—the guys behind Twelpforce and Geek Squad, respectively—are joining us for their first joint keynote conversation, and it’s our chance to peer inside what it takes to build and evolve a brand in today’s ever-changing environment.
3. THE MARKETING BURST SESSIONS
On Thursday, September 15th from 9AM-11AM, we’ve assembled a who’s who of interactive marketing technology leaders to share their insights with you on what the present and future hold. We’re talking Adobe, Facebook, Foursquare, Klout, Twitter & Yahoo! One stage, two hours & a fire hose of email, mobile & social ideas for you to soak in. Personally, I can’t wait!
4. 60 BREAKOUT SESSIONS
That’s right—10 tracks, 60 sessions, 18 more than 2010. Our team has been burning the midnight oil to line up some great speakers, partners, and panels to share their insights on email, mobile, and social media marketing.
5. STAN “THE MAN” LEE
Don’t get me wrong—I’m a big fan of all of our other keynoters like Jimmy Wales, Aron Ralson, and Soledad O’Brien. However, the kid in me couldn’t be more excited about hearing about “The Power of Character” straight from the man who created Spider-Man, The X-Men, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk. At 88 years-old, Stan Lee has more energy and creativity than most folks I know—I’m thinking he may actually be superhuman, but you’re going to have to be Connections in person to find out for yourself.
6. A Certain “California Gurl” in Concert
I’ll be there purely to assess her marketing prowess in a clear-minded and academic fashion. Trust me. ;-)
Still not sure, well then it’s time for me to roll out “The Big Gun.”
362 days each year, Joel Book preaches the gospel of one-to-one marketing best practices from coast-to-coast. However, when Connections rolls around, Joel loosens his tie and lets us tap his inner-thespian. A star of such Connections videos past as “Shrimp Tempura,” “Conversation Starters,” and “At Home with Joel Book.”
Our favorite of Joel’s characters, however, is his “Roving Reporter,” who may be a bit too passionate for his own good about Connections. If you’re on the fence about registering for Connections, here’s Joel Book, Roving Reporter, with the reasons you need to register now.
So what are you waiting for? Go get registered for Connections 2011, and we’ll see you in Indianapolis on September 13th!
