Mobile Dependence DayAre you getting dirty looks (or worse) from your significant other because your phone is permanently affixed to your hand? Finding yourself more interested in your text conversation than the live one taking place around you? Waking up throughout the night to check your email?

You’re not alone. You’ve experienced your own personal “Mobile Dependence Day”—that single, defining moment when your smartphone became a necessity, not just a convenience. And once you’ve crossed that line, it seems there’s no going back.

The smartphone has become a modern day Swiss Army knife—people rely on it for web browsing, email, text messaging, social networking, entertainment, navigation, and so much more. In fact, our recent survey revealed that:
  • 78% of US consumers use their smartphones for texting at least once per day
  • 66% check email at least once per day and 50% check Facebook at least once per day
  • Newer activities like “checking in” and scanning QR codes are also gaining popularity (28% and 24% of consumers, respectively, report having done these things at least once)
  • An astonishing  72% of teens would give up their gaming console before they’d relinquish their smartphone
And here’s a really important statistic for marketers… 16% of consumers say they’ve completed a purchase as a direct result of a message received on their smartphone. That’s not just text messages—other messaging channels like email, Facebook, and Twitter are also effective at driving purchases. Want to know more about how smartphones affect consumers’ online behavior, and how to take advantage of the smartphone revolution? Check out our new SUBSCRIBERS, FANS, & FOLLOWERS report, Mobile Dependence Day.
