Last week Facebook had its first ever conference just for
marketers, fMC. During the course of the day several exciting
announcements were made that will affect the way that brands do
business and engage with customers on Facebook. We know it
can be hard to keep up with the ever-evolving world of social media
so we put together this crash course on the upcoming
changes.
Lesson 1: Timeline For Pages
The new Timeline profile structure that rolled out to users
several months ago will now be available for brand Pages. Over the
new few weeks you can opt-in to update your page but by 3.30 all

Facebook focused the announcements on three core changes:

At ExactTarget, we understand that the changes in the
ever-evolving world of social media can be a little overwhelming.
To relieve the pressure, we have put together some crash course
blog posts (including this one) on the upcoming changes to the
platform.
Let’s get to the changes in the ad platform. Read ‘em...

Last
week, I attended the world’s largest interactive marketing
conference -
ExactTarget’s Connections 2011 in
Indianapolis, IN - with 3,000 marketers from around the world. We
absorbed the idea of the Power of One: one consumer, one platform,
one cloud, one person, and one business. The conference encouraged
attendees to consider how one individual can change a life and one
idea can change the world.
One IndividualWhat would you do trapped in the desert, pinned under a rock, out
of water, and facing certain death? The highlight of the conference
was keynote speaker Aron Ralston, author of...

ExactTarget's recent Connections '11 conference, we launched
the
ExactTarget SocialPages application. This is an amazing new
product because it takes the headache out of creating branded
Facebook pages, and makes it easy to integrate them into
cross-channel interactive marketing campaigns. This will
certainly change what brands can do on Facebook.
NASA was one of many customers that
helped shape this new product. And on top of that, Stephanie
Schierholz, NASA’s social media manager, delivered an awesome
presentation during Connections, walking us through NASA’s latest

The
team at AREA203 excitedly participated in Connections 2011 this
year. Our brains swelled with knowledge and we had a blast. The
energy was truly inspiring and the power of progressive thought was
evident in every keynote and breakout session.
In keeping with the theme of the conference “The Power on One,” our
social media team created an infographic highlighting the power of
the #ET11 Twitter hashtag (note that “crazy” was one of top
trending buzzwords). Enjoy and share!
Make sure you check out some of the top tweeters which include:

We all learned at a young age that
the easiest way to avoid answering the “which is your favorite”
question is by saying enthusiastically, “I liked them all!” Well,
during a conference featuring “The Power of One” as the connecting
theme throughout – “I liked them all” sounds rather like a cop-out.
But that’s my answer to the question “Who was your favorite speaker
at Connections 2011?” I loved them all. Collectively.
It wasn’t the power of just one of the speakers that moved and
impacted me – it was the Collective Power of One (ahem, maybe the
secret theme of Connections 2011) that made their...

We hope that everyone enjoyed the first official day at Connections
2011! It was an eventful day on the Connections hashtag
#ET11 – be
sure to check that out. Out of all the engaging content on Twitter,
Instagram, and the ExactTarget Blog I had the difficult task of
choosing the most engaging content. The winner for the most
engaging content for day one is Trena Roudebush. See her tweet
below.
There are still lots of opportunities to win other great prizes at
Connections.

With powerful interactive marketing products (like ExactTarget and
CoTweet) marketers can deliver relevant messages more easily.
However, even the most relevant message is not effective if your
customer has already received too many messages from you. This is
the marketing over communication challenge that many marketers
face, particularly those that are responsible for multiple brands
or product lines that meet the needs of the same audience. This is
one problem that the Interactive Marketing Hub (IMH) helps to
solve, by giving marketers one place to see all of their marketing
activities...

I
was fortunate to attend and be a guest blogger for the
Master of
Business Online Conference (MBO) an interactive marketing
conference hosted in Indianapolis. In addition to meeting some
great people, I also heard from a lineup of informative
speakers.
Here are 5 nuggets of information that I took away from the
conference.
1. One
Strategy with three mediums – Often companies think of
their blog, SEO efforts, and social media separately. All three of
these can be effective inbound marketing strategies, however when
combined together you can make a bigger impact.
2. It is all about the data –

The
task: create, manage, and execute a scavenger hunt that is both
multi-channel and engaging for Connections 2010. Seems simple
enough, right?
As marketers, we all know that things are rarely as easy as they
seem – but that’s half the fun of projects like this (at least for
me). After many meetings and whiteboarding sessions, I’m happy to
say that we hit our goal for the scavenger hunt. Most importantly,
Connections 2010 attendees that participated, had fun and got to
witness the power of
Email,
Mobile, and
Sites first-hand.
So how did it work? I’m glad you asked...
First, we had to have...
