One voice that summed up a lot of
what I took away from this event was Jay
Baer - The Power of Now. I'm a software engineer, not very
social (have never twittered my face in a book), not a marketer
(although sometimes I think I can be viral), just came to learn
what cool tech toys ET has coming that I can help our marketing
team leverage, and catch a Katy Perry concert - I mean "who doesn't
like cats". But listening to many of the speakers about "social"
over these last few days, I think I've either been brainwashed or
I'm starting to get this a bit. It's not about vanity or posting
what I had...Read More »

Last
week, I attended the world’s largest interactive marketing
conference - ExactTarget’s Connections 2011 in
Indianapolis, IN - with 3,000 marketers from around the world. We
absorbed the idea of the Power of One: one consumer, one platform,
one cloud, one person, and one business. The conference encouraged
attendees to consider how one individual can change a life and one
idea can change the world. One Individual
What would you do trapped in the desert, pinned under a rock, out of water, and facing certain death? The highlight of the conference was keynote speaker Aron Ralston, author of...Read More »
We all know that sending an mass
email can be stressful. But there's nothing quite like a last
minute "you have to send this NOW" type of email to really get the
blood flowing. In my position as a Product Support Specialist, I was in charge of sending our product marketing emails, as well as answering all emails and phone calls that came into our Support queue. While either of these jobs would have kept me busy enough, together they proved to be especially stressful.
On one crazy day, while our Support queue was overflowing with requests, I was tasked with the job of sending a product...Read More »
The
team at AREA203 excitedly participated in Connections 2011 this
year. Our brains swelled with knowledge and we had a blast. The
energy was truly inspiring and the power of progressive thought was
evident in every keynote and breakout session. In keeping with the theme of the conference “The Power on One,” our social media team created an infographic highlighting the power of the #ET11 Twitter hashtag (note that “crazy” was one of top trending buzzwords). Enjoy and share!

The Power of One.
That was the theme of Connections 2011...where individuals,
technology, teams, and organizations can change their communities,
their companies, their industries, and the world — all with a
single idea. Did the conference live up to this them? Most
certainly but it wasn’t any one specific thing but an accumulation
of so many Ones – too many to even completely list here! But here
are a few.My first One is Mallory Lee, from ExactTarget. She was part of the airport welcome team and she took the time to walk me over to the transportation center to find the bus as I was running...Read More »
I
loved the session at Connnections featuring Chris Studabaker,
mobile expert and all around great guy from ExactTarget. Mobile
e-mail design to me is complex but he made it seem simple and
showed some great examples of how to do everything from good
content to font sizes and use of images. I read so much email in my
mobile inbox and the company I work for sells to all of the major
mobile service providers – which means our email has to look good
on their devices! Thanks Chris for the great information and giving
us the real story in a succinct and informative way. I love your
no-nonsense...Read More »
I really enjoyed hearing from Best Buy's Robert Stephens. He was
hilarious, blunt and informative. It was great to hear his opinions
on how technology can impact the retail space in a more powerful
way.

Aron Ralston was my favorite
speaker. His personal story clearly demonstrated what we can all
do, or have within us, if circumstances and conditions so
dictate...a vivid picture of the power of one! This blog post was written by Brian from USA Funds as a part of the Connections blogging contest. See addtional posts from the contest here.

We all learned at a young age that
the easiest way to avoid answering the “which is your favorite”
question is by saying enthusiastically, “I liked them all!” Well,
during a conference featuring “The Power of One” as the connecting
theme throughout – “I liked them all” sounds rather like a cop-out.
But that’s my answer to the question “Who was your favorite speaker
at Connections 2011?” I loved them all. Collectively. It wasn’t the power of just one of the speakers that moved and impacted me – it was the Collective Power of One (ahem, maybe the secret theme of Connections 2011) that made their...Read More »
Throughout
the years and while working full-time in marketing, I've also been
involved in a number of different educational initiatives and have
volunteered to teach at local schools and colleges. So, I'm very
passionate about education and I love hearing about people who give
of their time and their talents to help people through education. I
absolutely loved Soledad's presentation and her passion and
commitment to a very worthy cause. Her presentation skills were
also superior to any of the other presenters. This post was written by Houshyar from CareOne Services, Inc. as a part of the Connec... Read More »
I'd read Aron Ralston's book, and seen 127 Hours, but
hearing him tell his story in person was an honor. The guy is an
amazingly good, genuine speaker. Thanks ExactTarget, for inviting
him. Definitely an unorthodox choice for an Email Marketing
conference, but it was inspirational, and something I won't forget.
I really enjoyed Jimmy Wales' insights also, by the way. This post was written by Ron from Dave Ramsey as a part of the Connections blogging contest. Read additional posts from the contest here.

I
have intentionally avoided hearing, seeing, or reading any details
regarding Aron Ralston's experience, for years. I was just sure
there wouldn't be anything worth learning that would outweigh my
discomfort with the details. I was wrong. I learned about giving up
but not giving in. Finding strength at our weakest moments..and
manifesting the power of one, and subsequently igniting the
passions and efforts of many. Thank you, Aron. I am better for
hearing your story! This post was written by Casey from Intuit, Inc as a part of the Connections blogging contest. See more blog posts from the...Read More »
Success or failure
is heavily tied to opportunity. As Soledad O'Brien has
demonstrated, providing an opportunity to succeed is an amazing way
to help change the world.'It just seemed so simple," O'Brien said when asked by an audience member about why her foundation chose to focus on providing scholarships to underprivileged women. Removing what O'Brien considered "small barriers" was a miniscule cost for such a strong return.
If children are the future, we must provide them with opportunities to make an impact. That opportunity doesn't have to come in the form of dollars, but just from...Read More »
Most
people know Aron Ralston's story. They've seen 127 HOURS, or read
his book, or watched him on Oprah. It's an amazing story, but it's
made even more so by Aron's spectacular speaking abilities. His
retelling of that day spoke to perseverance and truth, and was
truly inspiring. I don't think any of the ExactTarget attendees
will soon forget it.This post was written by Hannah from the Indiana University Alumni Association as a part of the Connections blogging contest. See more blog posts from the contest here.

As many of you know, especially my Twitter
followers who were inundated with hundreds of tweets, I
attended the ExactTarget User Conference in Indianapolis this week.

This was my third
Connections conference. Every year I think you will never top the
year before but you always do. I loved every minute of it! Every
speaker was fantastic, but Aron Ralston rocked - no pun intended!
Thanks for another great conference! I'm always orange when I get
back home. This post was written by Norene from the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County, Indiana as a part of the Connections blogging contest. See more posts from the contest here.

After
watching "127 Hours", I as many
had sat for hours thinking about what I would do in that same
situation. Just the thought alone of 127 hours doing anything let
alone being stranded alone in the desert, is a tedious task. After hearing Aron speak it really hit home to me about ensuing that I have something that drives me. If I think back to all the accomplishments in my life, everyone of them had a driving factor. Aron's was his son, and in every effort in life where we want to succeed we should find out our own.
This was a great example of what can be accomplished when we have a goal and...Read More »

was one particular word in Scott Dorsey’s speak that stuck out to
me, ORANGE.
I also work for a company that touts an orange logo, Schneider National. Most people know us as the orange semi-trucks that drive down the highways of the United States and America, but we are much more than that. We are a company that strives to be excellent in all we do.
Which brings me to our relationship with ExactTarget. When I was interviewing potential ESPs in early 2010, what stood out about ExactTarget was the passion behind the innovation and excellence. I knew that when I partnered with ET that they...Read More »
