In
recent years, the explosion of social media has left savvy
Internet-goers with choices far beyond Facebook. If you're just
about tweeted out, one strong option to consider for promoting your
small business is Instagram. With roughly 100 million users, it's a
viable method for getting the word out about your organization.
Unlike other social media giants, Instagram doesn't focus on a full
website; it's mainly available via smartphone app - and if your
target audience is smartphone savvy, then you should be too.
Follow these tips to help get your Instagramming efforts

Content
marketing, likely because of the term, is often viewed as a
function of the marketing department. However, some of the best
content marketing is produced by the president or CEO of a
business.
The president of a company understands the business and product fully and has the end in mind in all activities. The end is serving customers. For those of you scared of the word “sales,” you actually have to make one to have a customer.
This doesn’t mean that content marketing is reserved for the president or CEO. What this means is that content marketers, their prospective customers, and their...

What is responsive email?
Responsive design is a set of techniques in web design and
development used to adapt a website to be readable on any screen
and/or platform on which it's displayed. These techniques are being
repurposed for emails. A responsive layout uses a piece of CSS3
code called a media query to detect the pixel size of the screen on
which that email is opened. Based on the screen size detected,
multiple stylesheets may be triggered to alter the layout and...
March
13, 2013, was a historic day for Kickstarter, the website dedicated to social funding
for anything from software development to stage shows and
everything inbetween. Ex-hit television series "Veronica Mars" launched a campaign to raise $2 million
in financing to produce a motion picture of the cult favorite,
hitting its goal in under 10 hours and setting a record for the
quickest $1 million to be raised in the site's history.
Fans rejoice at the impending return of their favorite moonlighting private eye, but what does this mean for the film industry? And what does this say about...

In
light of growing stats and recommendations making the
case for responsive email, it's time to start taking a "mobile
first" approach. Mobile phones are naturally the smallest of the
devices we use to consume media, so it's arguable that if we design
for this space well first, we can naturally adapt and branch off
that version to deliver good experiences for tablets, desktop
screens, and future devices to come.
Small screens and touch interfaces
Use the mobile landscape as a starting point and develop layout
adaptations from there. Don't necessarily limit the content you
share with various...
Traditional media just isn't cutting it anymore, folks. Digital is the way. Then why aren't more brands embracing new technologies like they should?
According to a poll of US marketing professionals conducted by the American Marketing Association (AMA), brands plan to shift dollars from traditional media to mobile and social in 2013 and beyond. Why? Traditional media is fragmented and audiences are dwindling. According to the report, traditional mass media once offered marketers the benefit of reach, but now it's too fragmented and the metrics aren't great.

Today, Anonymous hacked into Burger King’s Twitter account and changed all the logos and messaging to McDonald’s. The buzz was tremendous and drove a massive amount of new followers for Burger King.
So, while it was no doubt embarrassing for the brand, many folks are pretty impressed by the increase in followers, brand mentions, and other nice side benefits the brand enjoyed. Unfortunately, Twitter quickly shut down their account as news began to spread.
So
what can we learn?

B2B Social Media Comes of Age
A
recent eConsultancy survey found that 67% of marketing
decision makers agreed that social media is integral to their
marketing mix (and only 11% disagreed). But when I speak to B2B
marketing and PR leaders, the received opinion is that social media
is a “consumer...
Racing is all about speed, but every now and then it helps to slow down and understand what drives the speed. I'm not talking about the cars, but rather the companies and the sponsors behind each team. Last week, as a sponsor of Andretti Autosport, ExactTarget had the opportunity to attend the Andretti Autosport Sponsor Summit.
The summit was what you would expect from a team known for winning championships. Day 1 started with a look back at Andretti Autosports's championship season and a look forward to the future of INDYCAR. On Day 2, we heard from the team's sponsors. Topics covered...

One voice that summed up a lot of
what I took away from this event was Jay
Baer - The Power of Now. I'm a software engineer, not very
social (have never twittered my face in a book), not a marketer
(although sometimes I think I can be viral), just came to learn
what cool tech toys ET has coming that I can help our marketing
team leverage, and catch a Katy Perry concert - I mean "who doesn't
like cats". But listening to many of the speakers about "social"
over these last few days, I think I've either been brainwashed or
I'm starting to get this a bit. It's not about vanity or posting
what I had...Read More »
